Snoop Dogg Questions LGBTQ Representation in Kids’ Movies: “Do We Really Have to Show That at This Age?” 😳

Snoop Dogg Opens Up About His Grandson’s Question on LGBTQ Representation in Pixar’s Lightyear

Snoop Dogg revealed that his grandson’s question about a lesbian relationship in Pixar’s 2022 movie Lightyear “threw [him] for a loop.” The 53-year-old rap legend admitted he didn’t know how to explain to his grandson how two women could have a child.

Speaking on the It’s Giving podcast, Snoop discussed marriage, parenting, and masculinity. Around the 31-minute mark, he described watching the movie with his grandson and being caught off guard.

“Why my grandson in the middle of the movie like, ‘Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She a woman,'” Snoop recalled. 😳

Snoop is a grandfather to seven children, including grandsons 10-year-old Zion Kalvin Broadus and 4-year-old Sky Love Broadus, making the conversation all the more personal for the Doggfather.

“I didn’t come here for this shit,” Snoop said. “I just came to watch the goddamn movie.”

Snoop Dogg revealed that watching Pixar’s 2022 movie Lightyear with his grandson turned into an unexpectedly tricky parenting moment. When his grandson asked how female protagonist Alisha Hawthorne could have a child with her wife, Snoop admitted he was caught off guard.

“Why my grandson in the middle of the movie like, ‘Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She a woman,'” Snoop said.

While the film doesn’t explain explicitly, women in same-sex relationships can have children through artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization with sperm donations. Snoop said in the moment he told his grandson to “shh” and eat his popcorn because he didn’t have an answer.

“So it’s like, fuck me, I’m scared to go to the movies now,” Snoop added. “Like, y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for.”

“It threw me for a loop. We have to show that at this age? Like, they’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
